Blackhill Comrades Club was originally founded in 1948 and has been a long-standing addition to the Blackhill and Consett community. The club as it stands today was rebuilt in 1977 and was officially opened on Christmas Day 25/12/1977.
As one of the largest social clubs in the Consett area, Blackhill Club is open to the public as well as it’s members and regularly hosts events starring internationally acclaimed performers as well as offering room hire to the community for private and business functions.
In 2007 Blackhill Club employed a full-time Secretary, Ann Lee-Shield, to help to run the club. Ann has worked for the club since 2004 and has successfully helped to maintain and improve the club to the standard it is at today. Being one of the only clubs in the area to have a full-time secretary we are able to offer services which would not normally be available at a local social club. The club had another influx of female staff by hiring Stewardess Maureen Richardson who is highly experienced in the hospitality sector. Together Ann and Maureen have improved the club standards and services to allow it to thrive in today’s economy.
Sine 2008 Blackhill Comrades has been able to change its entrance and toilets, through local council donations, to allow easy access for disabled patrons, allowing us to welcome anyone through our doors. We pride ourselves on being easily accessible for everyone in the community.
Not only that, but in 2009 we were able to have our lounge fully refurbished and it now has a modern feel, with a traditional social club setting to create a warm and friendly atmosphere for any function of up to 80 guests. Our Concert room is huge and can be easily decorated to fit any function for up to 200 guests.
Blackhill club also boasts a large bar which has been recently redecorated and is fully equipped with Sky and a HD Digi box to access all sporting events from around the world, as well as a huge projector screen in both the bar and our concert room. We have a full-sized pool table, two darts boards, Juke box and Full PA system on our concert room stage.
